The Obsidian by Mokwheel
Lookout, Mokwheel has put together a monster of a powerhouse e-bike!  The Obsidian can reach speeds up to 32mph and get you up most hills with very little effort.  How about going down?  With its  front hydraulic shock and a rear air shock you’ll feel safe and in control.

What is the Mokwheel Obsidian?
I contacted my Molkwheel rep and asked this very question.  When I asked if they considered the Obsidian a electric mountain bike the answer was, yes!

Worth It?
In the world of e-bikes and non powered bikes and mountain bikes, the Mokwheel Obsidian at the full price of $2899 or it’s even better Black Friday sale price of only $2299 it is not considered an expensive bike.  I think it’s decently priced at $2899 but if you can grab it during the Black Friday sale price of $2299 I’d say grab it as fast as you can!  At $2299 it’s extremely worth every penny.   A lot of the cheaper e-bikes claiming to have dual suspension usually supply a rear hydraulic suspension system.  With the Obsidian you get an actual air-shock and that makes a huge difference.   The 1000W rear hub motor which peaks at 1050w plus 90nm of torque makes this the most powerful e-bike I own and gets me up to 32mph quickly.  It’s also equipped with a torque sensor which adds assistance based on the how much effort the riding is putting into pedaling.   This along with the 8 speed Shimano cassette and it’s 44t crankset makes pedaling a breeze and does away with ghost pedaling.

The Good
With a 100w motor power you won’t have an issue getting up most hills and with it’s dual suspension you’ll have control to get back down.  Out of the box assembly was simple and didn’t need any special adjustments. At 70 pounds the Obsidian isn’t a light e-bike but but while riding it does feel solid and nimble at the same time.  It’s beautifully designed and looks amazing.

The Bad
The brakes are fine but would have liked it to come with a four piston hydraulic braking system.   I also wish the frame was made to  a accommodate a cable for installed a dropper seat post with a remote.

Overall
This bike has won me over and has done so very quickly.  I might have a couple of wishlist items for it but overall the Obsidian has become my favorite, go to e-bike!  It feels great to pedal without assistance and feels just as great when I do turn up the power and use assistance.  It’s a keeper!!!

SpiderWayne Rating

I gave it 5 out of 5 SpiderWayne’s because even thought I listed a couple of items under the “Bad” section, those are really just wishlist items for the next version of this fantastic e-bike by Mokwheel.  To me, the Mokwheel Obsidian is a 5 SpiderWayne e-bike!
