Riding the Mokwheel Scoria

The Scoria is considered a low seat cruiser and while it’s designed to manage riders from 5’0” to 6’2” I think it will be most comfortable for people around 5’ 0” to about 5’8”. This is because the Mokwheel Scoria has a very low stance due to its 20” wheels.  So if you have ever ridden a fat tire eBike and felt it was a bit tall I think the Scoria will fit just right.

Battery and Range

It has a 48v 19.6Ah battery with Samsung Cells and is Safety Certified in Accordance With UL 2271. For distance Mokwheel says you can get between 60-80 miles. However, this is going to depend on things like payload, terrain, and hills.  To be safe you can assume about half which would be more like 30-40 miles.

Motor

For power it comes with a 48v, 750w rear brushless hub motor.  It’s a class 2 eBike meaning it will get you up to 20 mph.  I found that while in peddle assist mode 5, if I keep the throttle pressed down and I continue to pedal I can reach 25mph+.

The Scoria uses a torque sensor to help you out with pedal assistance.  I’m a big fan of eBikes with torque sensors because they don’t over do all the work for you but kick in with just the right amount of assistance.

Weight and Payload

Its weight is a solid 79 pounds.

The Scoria can carry a maximum payload of 350 lbs and like I said earlier it can handle rides from 5’0” to 6’2” but keep in mind I feel that it’s better for heights between 5’” to around 5’8” because of it’s lower stand over height of 15.6”.

Tires and Stopping

When it comes to tires the Scoria is equipped with Chaoyang 20″ x 4” Puncture Resistant Fat Tires and for stopping power it has Tektro Hydraulic Brakes.

The Chaoyang tires have gum wall style sidewalls and look gorgeous.

 

Gearing

The Scoria has a 7 speed Shimano cassette, derailleur and shifter.  This gearing helps with different pedal assist modes as well as when you ride it without any pedal assist like when riding a non-powered bike.

The Good

Mokwheel continues to put out awesome eBikes and the Scoria is awesome but and there is a but… Because of its lower stance, I feel that it will be more accommodating to people around 5′ to around 5′ 8″.   So for all of you that have tried out eBikes and felt they were just too much eBike for you, I would highly recommend that you give the Scoria a try and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprise.

The Bad

People over 5′ 8″ might feel this eBike is a little too short for them.  Other than that it’s a great eBike

Overall

Mokwheel has a large lineup of eBikes for everyone from their City Commuter eBikes, to their Power Station eBikes to their Dual Suspension off-road eBikes and they also have something for your pets called the Trailer + PetShed.  Below I have included my reviews to previous Mokwheel products that I’ve reviewed.
